The Mattancherry police in Ernakulam district, Kerala, booked 27 All India Youth Federation (AIYF) activists for taking out a march to the house of Hindutva ideologue T.G. Mohandas at Koovapadam on Wednesday (July 29, 2026) in protest against his provocative statements against the Jantar Mantar protesters.
AIYF activists have been charged with unlawful assembly and creating danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation.
The Thiruvananthapuram City Cyber Police had on Wednesday registered a case against Mr. Mohandas over a recent YouTube video in which he said he “would have shot” the protesters if he were in control. The case has been filed under Sections 192 and 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 66 of the Information Technology Act and Section 120(o) of the Kerala Police Act, related to provocation with intent to cause a riot, publication of statements likely to create fear or alarm and disturb public tranquillity and other offences.
The government had faced flak for delay in registering the case for his comments, which were widely criticised.
In a 30-minute video, Mr. Mohandas, a former head of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s intellectual cell, speaks at length about how he would have tackled the student protests by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and other major Opposition outfits against the NEET exam irregularities.
“I will impose a curfew in about a 4 square kilometre area around Jantar Mantar. Then I would announce thrice for the crowd to disperse. After that, I will shoot. People will scatter away and run for their lives. Some may die, some may suffer disabilities. Within four hours, the situation will be calm. Then I will collect the bodies and take them to hospitals,” he said.
In another video, he said secular women who take part in protests “enjoy being gangraped.”
“Gangrapes will happen. In this case, there won’t be any complaints as these are people who like being raped. There are women who like being raped, especially leftists, secular, democratic and proletarians. Now if someone dies during this, they will turn the person into a martyr,” he said.
The video led to a major uproar, with complaints being filed against him by leaders of the Students Federation of India (SFI) and the All India Students Federation (AISF).
