District Collector Ranjeet Singh released water from Adavinainarkovil Dam for the ‘kar’ season paddy cultivation on Wednesday.

Speaking after releasing the water from the reservoir, Mr. Ranjeet Singh said the 60 cusecs of water being released for 95 days – i.e. till October 31 this year – would benefit 2,147.47 acres of lands under Ilaththur, Nainaragaram, Kilaankaadu, Kambili, Pungan and Sambavarvadakarai Channels.

Even though the southwest monsoon was being expected to become active in the forthcoming days, the release of water would be regulated and given on turn basis if the nature dashed the hopes.

“Hence, the farmers should judiciously use the water and cooperate with the officials releasing water in these channels,” Mr. Ranjeet Singh appealed.

The water being released from the dam will benefit the cultivable lands in Vadakarai Melpidaagai, Vadakarai Keezhpidaagai, Paimpozhil, Kuththukkalvalasai, Achchanpudhur, Nainaragaram, Aayikudi, Ilaththur, Kodikkurichi, Neduvayal, Kilaankaadu, Kambili and Sambavar Vadakarai.
