A sum of ₹104.29 crore has been released to Andhra Pradesh over the last five years for the development of judicial infrastructure, Union Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal said in response to a question by Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy.

The Minister said 10 court complexes had been completed and were functional, while 24 others were under various stages of construction in the State.

“The primary responsibility for developing infrastructure for district and subordinate courts rests with the State government. However, to augment the resources of the States, the Central government has been implementing a scheme for the development of judicial infrastructure since 1993-94,” Mr. Meghwal said.

He said the scheme covered the construction of court halls, residential units for judicial officers, lawyers’ halls, toilet complexes and digital computer rooms. Under the scheme, a mother sanction of ₹8.79 crore had been issued to Andhra Pradesh during the current financial year.

Mr. Meghwal said two infrastructure projects that commenced before 2021 were still under construction. These include residential quarters for a Civil Judge (Senior Division) at Ramachandrapuram in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district and a six-court building complex at Adoni in Kurnool district.

He added that the Nyaya Vikas Portal was being used as an online monitoring mechanism to track the progress of projects implemented under the scheme.

Replying to another question by Mr. Reddy, the Minister said 137 judicial posts were vacant in Andhra Pradesh against the sanctioned strength of 875 posts in the State judiciary.
