Alam Badi Azami, 90, the oldest member of the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha and a five-time MLA from the Nizamabad assembly constituency in Azamgarh district, died at his residence in Azamgarh in the early hours of Thursday (July 23, 2026). The deceased was unwell for some time and was recently discharged from Medanta Hospital in Lucknow.

He represented the Nizamabad constituency five times between 1996 and 2007 and again from 2012 until now. Leaders from across parties expressed grief over the death. “The demise of senior Samajwadi Party leader and popular MLA from Nizamabad Assembly constituency of Azamgarh, Mr. Alam Badi Sahib, is extremely sad. May God give peace to the departed soul. May the bereaved family find strength to bear this immense sorrow. Heartfelt tribute,” wrote Mr. Yadav, on X.

Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana said, “The news of the demise of Shri Alam Badi ji, senior MLA of Nizamabad assembly constituency of Azamgarh district is very sad. His passing is an irreparable loss to the politics and public life of Uttar Pradesh. The simplicity, public service, and dedication he displayed throughout his long political career will always be remembered. May God give place to the departed soul in His feet and give strength to the bereaved family and their supporters to bear this immense sorrow. I pay my heartfelt tributes to the departed soul. Om Shanti,”.

Lok Sabha member from Azamgarh Dharmendra Yadav on X wrote, “The demise of Mr. Alambadi Azmi Saheb, a senior pillar of the socialist movement and five-time MLA from Nizamabad Assembly of Azamgarh, is a very sad and irreparable loss. He made politics not a means of power, but of social service. Simplicity, honesty, struggle, and dedication to the people were the hallmarks of his personality. Throughout his life, he remained steadfast in socialist values and stood with the common people in their joys and sorrows. His humility, kindness, and commitment to public concerns earned him respect not only in Azamgarh, but throughout the state and country. With his passing, the socialist movement has lost an experienced, hardworking, and popular guardian. His life, ideals, and legacy of struggle will continue to inspire generations to come. This void will never be filled. May the bereaved family, well-wishers and supporters find strength to bear this unbearable grief. Humble and heartfelt tribute to respected Alambadi Saheb,”
