The meeting of Coimbatore Next with the Ministers of the Government of Tamil Nadu was held today (July 18, 2026) at Taj Vivanta and was attended by all the partner associations of Coimbatore Next, along with several other industry, trade, and civic organisations from across the city.

The presentations covered key areas growth, visiblity, advocacy and environmental sustainability.

The Ministers for Backward Classes Welfare V. Sampath and Minister for Excise K. Vignesh listened to every presentation, took note of the various demands and suggestions, and assured the gathering that they would work closely with Coimbatore Next to accelerate the city’s development. They expressed their commitment to stop corruption at every level and partnering with the initiative to drive infrastructure growth, attract greater investments, create employment opportunities, and strengthen Coimbatore’s position as one of Tamil Nadu’s leading economic hubs.

The meeting covered a wide range of development priorities for Coimbatore. Detailed discussions were held on the expansion and modernization of Coimbatore International Airport, the redevelopment of Coimbatore Railway Station, improvement of the city’s road network, construction of additional flyovers, and the completion of Western bypass road. The need for critical infrastructure such as a Multi-Modal Logistics Park, a central university, a dedicated vegetable market, a perishable goods market, and new integrated bus stands was also emphasized to support trade, logistics, and urban mobility.

Equally important were the discussions on improving the city’s livability and environmental sustainability. The participants highlighted the need for a reliable drinking water supply, scientific waste management, restoration and rejuvenation of lakes, ponds, and the River Noyyal, comprehensive sewage water treatment, and desilting of key drinking water sources such as Pillur and Siruvani reservoirs. The importance of increasing Coimbatore’s green cover through large-scale tree plantation, enhancing air quality, improving oxygen levels, and creating a healthier urban environment for future generations was also strongly emphasised.

The discussions focused not only on the opportunities for growth but also on the challenges that currently hinder the region’s development and the practical steps required to overcome them. The meeting reflected a shared vision between the Government and the stakeholders to promote sustainable, inclusive, and future-ready development for Coimbatore and the surrounding region.
