Bangladesh’s apex tribal group denies supporting a new militant outfit from Tripura

Bangladesh’s apex tribal group denies supporting a new militant outfit from Tripura

Posted on February 19, 2025 By admin

The Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS), the apex organisation representing the jumma (indigenous) people in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh, has denied any involvement in the ‘creation’ of a new extremist outfit in Tripura. It has rejected a news report claiming that PCJSS President Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma is linked to the Tripura United Liberation Front (TULF).

PCJSS assistant information and publicity secretary Sajib Chakma stated that the allegation against Mr. Larma is false, incorrect and politically motivated. He also stated that any ties between Mr. Larma and a militant group are absurd.

However, there has been no official confirmation yet on the emergence of TULF. One news media outlet reported that TULF has established a base in the Sajek valley in the Kasalong range of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

A security official, who requested to remain anonymous, stated on Wednesday that they have no information on the formation of any new extremist outfit in Tripura or its base in Bangladesh. He also mentioned that the last two smaller factions of the National Liberation Front of Tripura have laid down their arms after signing a Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) in New Delhi on September 4, 2024.

He added that security establishments in India have no knowledge of PCJSS’s connection with any ultra or extremist group, as reported by a media outlet.
