Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday (July 17, 2026) called out the lack of action on examination paper “leaks” in the country, stating that “not a single person has been punished” so far.
Addressing the second ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ (Voice of Students) rally in Dehradun, Mr. Gandhi said about 7.5 crore students have been affected due to such. 152 cases, but no convictions, he said.
“1% uses the system and follows path of paper leaks, and hurts 99% others who are honest and poor,” Mr. Gandhi added.

He stated that the event is not a “political meet”, emphasising that the students’ rally is about “the youth, their future, struggles, and difficulties”.
Mr. Gandhi addressed the first ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ rally in Kota, Rajasthan, on June 17. He is expected to participate in similar rallies in other cities as well.

Earlier in the day, the Congress leader met the family of a party worker who died in a freak accident in Dehradun when preparations were under way for the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ event.
Mr. Gandhi visited the residence of the party worker, Amar Mehta (65), and offered heartfelt condolences, State Congress president Ganesh Godiyal said.
Mehta died on Thursday (July 16, 2026) after being struck by an iron rod that fell from a tent erected at the Bannu School grounds in Dehradun during preparations for the party event.
Upon his arrival at Jolly Grant Airport near Dehradun, Mr. Gandhi was accorded a warm welcome by party workers. He was presented with a memento made of Bhojpatra (birch bark), associated with the Badrinath Dham shrine.
