Development of four lakes at a cost of ₹536 crore

Development of four lakes at a cost of ₹536 crore

Posted on July 13, 2026 By admin

The Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has submitted proposals worth ₹536.5 crore for the development of four lakes within the Outer Ring Road, of which ₹228 crore has been granted by the State government.

The funds will be used to develop Fox Sagar (Jeedimetla), Ameenpur Lake, Amber Cheruvu (Nizampet), and Saroornagar Lake. The combined FTL area of all the four lakes adds up to over 1,200 acres. Of the total funding requirement, a total ₹349 crore is earmarked only for Fox Sagar and Ameenpur lakes.

The present grant is for ‘core items’ which will be taken up in the first phase of development. The second phase constitutes ‘non core items’ for which cost estimate stands at ₹147.5 crore. Beautification works will be taken up last, with a cost estimate of ₹161 crore, as per the action plan submitted by HYDRAA.

The proposals by HYDRAA were sent for vetting by the Metropolitan Commissioner, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), who in turn sent them to IIT-Hyderabad for independent technical scrutiny and evaluation.

IIT-Hyderabad has certified that the provisions made in the estimates are necessary and justified for the execution of the proposed works, the orders issued by the government stated. Expenditure for the first phase will be met from the funds of HMDA, the orders said.

In a separate order, government has also sanctioned ₹12.5 crore assistance to HYDRAA.
