In a significant development, the Embassy of India in Vietnam has finalised the authorised agency that will facilitate the repatriation of the mortal remains of the deceased to India, and the Embassy has confirmed that the repatriation process has commenced.

The authorised agency is expected to contact the bereaved families today (July 12, 2026) to obtain the necessary authorisation required for the release and transportation of the mortal remains to India. Once the formalities are completed, arrangements will be made to bring the bodies back to their native places, said the officials.

Meanwhile, the tourists who were rescued from the accident are scheduled to return to India today (July 12). They will board flights to their respective native places, with flight tickets arranged by the mobile service provider concerned.

The mortal remains of the 15 Indian nationals who tragically passed away in yesterday’s boat accident are being transported to Ho Chi Minh City and will reach there by this evening.

The A.P. Bhavan officials said that they continue to coordinate closely with the Embassy of India in Vietnam and are closely monitoring the situation, stating that all necessary assistance is being extended to the affected families and tourists until the safe return of all those involved and the completion of the repatriation process.

All Telugu tourists stranded at Phu Quoc Island have reached Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi. They will leave Hanoi at 7.05 p.m. (local time) by Vietnam Airlines and are expected to reach Hyderabad around 10 p.m. (IST) on Sunday (July 12, 2026).

The Embassy of India, the Government of Andhra Pradesh and A.P. Bhavan, New Delhi, are providing round-the-clock consular, logistical and repatriation assistance, officials said.
