A whole-of-government approach is being followed to address issues concerning the recycling industry for critical minerals, G. Kishan Reddy, Union Mines Minister told reporters at the sidelines of a seminar of the Material Recycling Association of India (MRAI) Monday.
“The issues [concerning the broader industry] are not just related to the Union Mines Ministry but to several other ministries as well,” he stated, adding, “Discussions have been held with several ministries with a whole of govt-approach, including electronics, finance, commerce and environment, among others, and efforts are being made to address them.”
Mr. Reddy also assured that the ministry has taken note of recyclers’ demand for scrapping the mandatory Pre-Shipment Inspection Certificate (PSIC) and consultations would be held with relevant ministries to reach an agreeable solution.
In his address, the Union Mines Minister sought to urge for a greater thrust to the country’s overall recycling sector amid the government’s push.
He sought that e-waste collection be undertaken in all major cities in collaboration with relevant urban affairs ministry, environment and the electronic ministries.
Further, he mentioned, “The Indian government is committed to bringing forth the best technology [for recycling critical minerals] wherever it may exist globally.”
