Committed to attracting 500 new global capability centres to create 3.5 lakh jobs, says Karnataka Chief Minister

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Wednesday met over 200 global capability centres (GCC) leaders, corporate heads and senior government officials to discuss the priorities shaping the next phase of Karnataka’s GCC ecosystem.

He had dialogues with them on AI, talent, infrastructure and next phase of growth at KATALYST CONNECT, an event organised by the Department of Electronics, Information Technology and Biotechnology and Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM).

The Chief Minister told the GCC community that his government was committed to attracting 500 new GCCs to the State, creating 3.5 lakh high-quality jobs and generating $50 billion in economic output by 2029.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Shivakumar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening Karnataka’s position as India’s leading destination for GCCs.

“Today, GCCs in our State are shaping global products, engineering breakthrough technologies and driving enterprise transformation,’’ he said.

Earlier, speaking at a strategic meet, Minister for Home, Information Technology, Biotechnology and e-Governance Priyank Kharge said: “As GCCs evolve from delivery centres into global hubs for AI, engineering, R&D and product innovation, our focus is on ensuring that Karnataka continues to provide the talent, policy environment and innovation ecosystem required for them to take on larger global mandates.’’

The consultation saw participation from Google, Target, Intel, IBM, Anthropic, Nokia, Bosch, JPMorgan Chase, HSBC, Chevron, Philips, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Takeda, Novo Nordisk, Rolls-Royce, Raytheon, Ford, eBay, Carl Zeiss, Collins Aerospace, Johnson Controls and Maersk to name a few.

Building new Bengalurus: CM

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said his government was committed to build more new Bengalurus in the State.

He also said double FAR (Floor Area Ratio, the ratio of a building’s total constructed floor area to the total plot size) would be allowed in other cities too.

He also said the government was constructing a 123-km Bengaluru Business Corridor spending ₹26,000 crore in the first phase. A small tunnel project was launched near Hebbal and another 40-km tunnel road was also planned and the project would be discussed in the upcoming Cabinet meeting.

“Along with these, we have planned a 44-km double-decker flyover project. We have planned a 133-km flyover project. We are spending ₹1.5 lakh crore on Bengaluru’s development,” he said.

Stating that the government plans on providing all facilities to tier-2 and tier-3 cities as well, he said while office space rent in Bengaluru was between $1 and $1.5, in tier-2 and tier-3 cities space was available for half a dollar.

“We are moving forward to offer double FAR there, thereby enabling the construction of multi-storey buildings in those cities too.’’
