A. Manoj (54), a Special Sub-Inspector (SSI) attached to the Neelambur police station in Coimbatore district, ended his life at his residence at Kangeyampalayam near Sulur on Sunday (July 5, 2026).
A native of Kannadi village panchayat in Palakkad district in Kerala, Manoj joined the Police Department as a Grade-II Constable in 1997. He had been serving as an SSI at Neelambur station since December, 2025.
According to the Coimbatore District Police, Manoj had been residing alone at his rented residence at Kangeyampalayam for the past one year after his wife returned to her native place in Kerala, along with their two sons, due to alleged family disputes. He had reportedly been undergoing mental stress and health-related issues during this period, the police said.
Manoj sent a WhatsApp message to his elder son around 5 a.m. on Sunday, stating that he was suffering from severe body pain, mental stress and high blood pressure. In the message, he also expressed his intention to end his life and requested his family members to remain happy.
A neighbour, who noticed that Manoj had not come out of his residence as usual, checked on him around 9.30 a.m. and found him dead in his bedroom. Personnel from Sulur station rushed to the spot and informed the family members of the deceased.
The body was sent to the Government Medical College and ESI Hospital, Coimbatore, where the post-mortem examination was performed. The Sulur police registered a case.
