Rear Admiral Chandrasekharan Raghuram, has assumed charge as the Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in Visakhapatnam, effective on Thursday.
An officer with a distinguished career spanning more than three and a half decades, Rear Admiral Raghuram brings extensive expertise in naval engineering, ship maintenance, and strategic planning to the premier defence shipyard.
Commissioned into the Indian Navy on November 10, 1989, he has held a series of critical operational and command appointments. His contributions to the service were formally recognized in 2017 when he was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM).
An alumnus of the Naval College of Engineering, Lonavala, and the National Defence College, he also holds academic credentials from Cranfield University in the United Kingdom and the Naval War College. During his sea service, he was part of the commissioning crew of INS Trishul and also served on INS Gomati.
Throughout his career, he has been at the forefront of the Navy’s technical initiatives, with significant roles at the Weapons and Electronics Systems Engineering Establishment (WESEE) and the Afloat Support Team for Talwar-class ships, honing his expertise in Life Cycle Support and combat system integration.
His leadership profile includes a tenure as the Commanding Officer of INS Valsura, the Navy’s premier training establishment. Additionally, he served as the Principal Director of Electrical Engineering at the Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy), Command Electrical Officer at the Eastern Naval Command, and Chief Staff Officer (Technical) at the Western Naval Command. He also held senior leadership roles at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai and at Naval Headquarters. Before his appointment at HSL, he served as the Assistant Chief of Materiel, where he oversaw the maintenance of key naval platforms.
