Tourism Minister S. Rajesh Kumaar inaugurated the pulse polio campaign at Kanniyakumari Government Medical College Hospital in Asaripallam on Sunday.
According to officials, pulse polio drops were administered to 1,13,303 children on the first day of the camp out of the district’s target population of 1,37,847.
A total of 1,236 centres have been set up across the district including 23 in bus stands, railway station and other crowd gathering places and 17 mobile teams were organised for the regions lacking transport.
In Tirunelveli district, 1,06,912 children received pulse polio drops on the first day against the target of 1,09,092, recording a 98% coverage.
Meanwhile in Tenkasi district, Environment and Climate Change Minister V.K. Rajeev launched the pulse polio camp at sub health centre in Nannagaram, in Melagaram town panchayat.
On the first day of the camp, a total of 90,208 children were administered with polio drops, against the target of 87,357 children, achieving 103% coverage.
Meanwhile in Thoothukudi district, a total of 1,176 pulse polio camp centres have been organised across the district, to cover 1,13,781 children in the district.
