Three persons were arrested in connection with an infant sale in the district on Saturday (June 27, 2026).
According to the police, Srinivasan (30), a resident of Santhankadu near Periya Puthur, is a weaver. His wife Kavitha (25) gave birth to a female infant on June 17. Meanwhile, officials attached to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) received information that the female infant was sold to a couple in Ramanathapuram district. Following this, the infant was rescued with the help of Kondalampatti police.
During inquiry, CWC officials and the Kondalampatti police found that R. Ramamoorthy (65), a resident of Senaipalayam in Attaiyampatti, acted as a broker and sold the infant for ₹1.50 lakh to a couple, R. Indrakumar (49) and I. Muthulakshmi (45), residents of Keelakarai in Ramanathapuram district.
Based on the investigations, the Kondalampatti police registered a case against the trio under Section 143 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 80 and 81 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. They were arrested and later remanded in prison.
