A ‘Pelvic Health Clinic’ was inaugurated at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre on Thursday to promote specialised care for pelvic floor disorders and mark Continence Care Week.

The clinic was inaugurated by Sonali Santharam, founder of Birth Basix, in the presence of SRIHER trustee Samyuktha Venkataachalam. Dr. Sonali said continence-related disorders often go untreated because of stigma, misconceptions and lack of awareness. She said that pelvic floor dysfunction following pregnancy and childbirth can lead to conditions such as urinary incontinence, constipation and uterine prolapse, and stressed the need for greater public awareness and timely medical consultation, according to a press release.

As part of the programme, 13 children with special needs received assistive devices, including orthotics, wheelchairs and modified chairs, under the “Movement Mission” initiative to improve mobility and independence, the release said. Vice-Chancellor Uma Sekar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Mahesh Vakamudi, Principal of the Faculty of Physiotherapy P. Antony Leo Aseer, faculty members and students participated in the event, the release added.
