An 83-year-old man allegedly killed his wife before ending his life following a domestic dispute at their residence under Sampigehalli police station limits in Bengaluru.
The deceased have been identified as Sumitra Prasad (77) and her husband Shivananda Prasad (83), natives of Bihar.
According to the police, the elderly couple had recently come from Bihar to stay in their son’s house in Bengaluru. Sumitra was reportedly suffering from vision-related and heart ailments, while both were facing age-related health issues.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the couple had frequent arguments over health-related concerns. On June 22 night, after dinner, they retired to their room. Police suspect that Shivananda Prasad smothered his wife to death before taking his own life.
The incident came to light when family members noticed that the couple did not come out of their room.
Sampigehalli police visited the house. The bodies were shifted to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the deaths.
