434 booked for drunk driving during three-day special drive in Chennai

Posted on June 15, 2026 By admin

The Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) have booked 434 motorists for drunk driving during a special three-day enforcement drive conducted across the city from the night of June 12 to June 14.

The operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to ensure safe and accident-free city roads, following directions from Greater Chennai Commissioner of Police A. Amalraj. Around 350 traffic police personnel were deployed across the city for the drive. To curb traffic violations, the police established 120 vehicle check posts at strategic locations and intensified surveillance at major junctions throughout the city.

In addition to drunk driving cases, the police registered 130 cases for speeding and rash driving, and 2,385 motorists were booked for helmetless riding. The GCTP appealed to road users to comply with traffic rules.
