Pakistan says the United States and Iran have reached an agreement to end the war and open the Strait of Hormuz, offering relief to the global economy more than three months since the war began.
Full details of the deal were not immediately available. The signing will be Friday on (June 19, 2026) in Switzerland. It is not clear how quickly the strait might reopen to all traffic. The U.S. previously said it would ease its blockade of Iranian ports as the strait reopens, and would agree to relax sanctions to allow Iran to sell more of its oil and strengthen its battered economy.

Trump says deal with Iran is ‘now complete’
Mr. Trump said on Sunday (June 14, 2026) that a peace deal with Iran is “now complete,” announcing the Strait of Hormuz is open and the United States will lift its naval blockade.
“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!,” Mr. Trump said on his Truth Social network, shortly after mediator Pakistan said both sides had reached an agreement.
“I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”
