The absence of big stars has taken the sheen off the Indian Athletics Series-10 which gets underway at the LNCPE Athletics Stadium here on Sunday.

The meet has failed to attract the leading athletes, with the two-day ninth series having begun in Ludhiana on Saturday.

However, for some athletes preparing for the National inter-State meet, this event will provide the much-needed exposure. The focus will be on athletes attached to NCoEs and from JSW and Reliance. There are also large number of entries from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and Telangana.

Olympian M.P. Jabir, Mohammed Afsal, Gowrinandana, Jisna Mathew, Rupal, Poovamma, upcoming sprint sensation Aditya Pisal figures in the list of entries. However, their participation in their pet events is a matter of conjecture.

With the city receiving copious amounts of rainfall this week, the weather may play spoilsport and present challenging conditions for the competitors.
