Mudit Mittal, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru, has urged road users to strictly follow safety regulations while approaching and crossing railway level crossings.
Participating in the International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) – 2026, held by Mysuru Division of South Western Railway in Mysuru on Tuesday (June 9), Mr. Mittal said safety at level crossings is a shared responsibility, but emphasised on the need for people to always stop, look and listen while approaching the railway level crossings.
“Never attempt to cross the level crossing when the gate is closed or when warning signals are in operation. Avoid rushing the crossing and refrain from using mobile phones or other distractions. Follow the instructions of the gatekeepers and the railway staff and use only authorised level crossings instead of trespassing across railway tracks,” he said.
The ILCAD, held in accordance with the directives of the Railway Board, is aimed at creating awareness among road users about safe practices at level crossings and to prevent accidents caused by negligence and unsafe crossing habits.
As part of the campaign, a special awareness programme was organised at Level Crossing Gate No. 04 between Mysuru and Ashokapuram Railway Stations on Tuesday (June 9) morning. Mr. Mittal, along with Additional Divisional Railway Manager Shammas Hameed and other senior officers of the division, inspected the level crossing and interacted with road users to spread awareness on the importance of adhering to safety rules while crossing railway tracks.
The awareness campaign featured the distribution of safety pamphlets, interactive sessions with road users, and live demonstrations on safe crossing practices.
Nukkad Natak
A ‘Nukkad Natak’ performed by the Scouts and Guides team of South Western Railway effectively conveyed important safety messages and encouraged responsible behaviour among the public.
A press statement from Mysuru Railway Division said that the programme witnessed active participation from railway officials, staff, Scouts and Guides, and members of the public. “Through such initiatives, Mysuru Division continues its efforts to increase public awareness and reinforce the importance of safety at level crossings,” the statement added.
