Practice followed earlier will continue in Thirupparankundram deepam issue, says Minister

Minister for Energy Resources and Law C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar on Saturday, responding to a query on the State government’s stand on the Thirupparankundram KarthigaidDeepam issue, said what was the practice earlier would continue.

Addressing journalists at a press meet held in Madurai after presiding over a consultative meeting with officials, the Minister said people want peace. No communal forces would be allowed to politicise the issue.

The Minister presided over a consultative meeting with officials from various departments regarding the ongoing development works in Madurai district. Madurai District Collector P. Akash, Superintendent of Police B.K. Arvind and others were present.

The Minister said the District Collector and Corporation Commissioner would undertake a detailed assessment with regard to the irregularities in Madurai Corporation and based on the inquiry, strict action would be taken against those involved. A thorough investigation would be conducted and appropriate action would be taken, he said. The Minister said discussions were held with regard to schemes for proper waste disposal.

He said strict action would be taken against those involved in operating Tasmac shops and bars in violation of the rules. Cases would be registered against those who violated the rules.

The Department of Geology and Mining would conduct an assessment on how many quarries were operating in the district, how many were closed and whether there were any violations. The authorities have been instructed to carry out the assessment. Strict action would be taken against the offenders, the Minister said.

He said police were conducting a thorough investigation into the theft of 18 hard disks from Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited headquarters. Strict action would be taken against those involved, he said.
