The police probing the alleged assault on two young women at Kaloor are set to issue a lookout circular against the prime accused, Ali Akbar, a native of Palakkad. The investigators said Akbar had a criminal history and was booked in a POCSO case within the city limits earlier.
Police sources said Akbar was allegedly involved in an illegal prostitution racket under the cover of a lodging business.
Akbar and six others are on the run, while the three arrested— Alvin, a native of Edappal in Malappuram, Arun and Sabith, both natives of Mannarkkad in Palakkad— have been remanded in judicial custody. The trio were employees of Akbar.
The investigation team, meanwhile, raided a lodging facility run by Akbar on Kaloor-Puthiya Road. However, the police could not make much headway as the facility was shut by the time they arrived.
The police said an identification parade would be conducted once the remaining accused were taken into custody. The alleged assault took place around 4.30 a.m. on Tuesday (June 2, 2026) on Chakkalapadam Road at Kaloor. The women were returning to their hostel after having tea when the group allegedly made lewd gestures and sexually coloured remarks against them, leading to a confrontation and physical assault.
