NCW takes cognisance of DU assistant professor’s murder

NCW takes cognisance of DU assistant professor’s murder

Posted on June 5, 2026 By admin

New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Friday took suo motu cognisance of reports of the alleged murder of a Delhi University assistant professor, who was found dead at her residence in Vasundhara Enclave on Thursday.

The commission wrote to the Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golchha, seeking immediate, stringent and time-bound action in the case. It also sought a detailed action taken report (ATR) within seven days.

According to the NCW, the ATR should include details of the FIR, the status of the investigation, forensic and post-mortem findings, analysis of CCTV footage, call detail records and other digital evidence, as well as efforts to identify, trace and apprehend the perpetrator.

Police said a call was received at 2.35 p.m. on Thursday at the New Ashok Nagar police station from a woman who reported that her sister had been murdered and that her body was lying inside her flat in Vasundhara Enclave. A case was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to murder, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination.

The deceased was identified as Devosmita Paul, Assistant Professor at Shivaji College.

In a statement, the NCW stated it has also “sought details on the examination of all possible suspects and others known to the victim, and information on measures being taken to strengthen the safety and security of women living alone in the national capital”.
