An 83-year-old man was found dead with a head wound, apparently from a gunshot, at Nittur village in Hosanagara taluk of Shivamogga district in Karnataka, on May 31 night. A single-barrel gun was found beside the body.
The deceased has been identified as Thattarodke Ramachandra Rao, 83. He is survived by two sons and grandchildren. His wife had passed away a few years ago.
According to the police, Ramachandra Rao had been undergoing treatment for liver and urinary tract ailments. He had recently suffered a head injury in a fall. The police suspect that he took the extreme step unable to bear the pain. He had a licence for the gun.
He had been living with his elder son. The incident is believed to have taken place when he was alone in his room.
The Nagara Police registered an unnatural death case based on a statement given by his son Dinesh. Superintendent of Police Nikhil B. and other senior officers visited the spot.
