BJP leader Vanathi Srinivasan, on Sunday (May 31, 2026), criticised the Tamil Nadu government over various incidents reported in various parts of the State and further criticised it for not maintaining the law and order situation. Merely transferring officials without concrete steps to ensure safety of women and law and order situation was of no use, she charged.

Ms. Srinivasan referred to an incident in which a young woman was murdered by running a car over her and also an incident of vandalism in Thoothukudi district under the influence of ganja and alcohol. The rampant use of alcohol and other psychotropic substances has left the State anxious of the loss of human lives, she alleged.

The previous DMK government had failed to control the movement of psychotropic substances and several youths became addicts, Ms. Srinivasan charged and further added the trend continued under the TVK-led government too. Reports of murders and other offences every other day in the State only showed the status of law and order situation, she said.
