A 25-year-old woman allegedly killed her mother-in-law after a petty dispute at Venkannapalem village in Chodavaram mandal of Anakapalli district, Andhra Pradesh on Thursday (May 28, 2026) night.

According to the police, the accused, K. Nagamani, had reportedly been having frequent disputes with her mother-in-law, K. Pasalamma, 46, over petty issues ever since her marriage to K. Lakshmana Rao about six years ago. Mr. Lakshmana Rao works as a helper at Pharmacity in Parawada, the police said.

On Thursday night an argument reportedly broke out between Ms. Nagamani and Ms. Pasalamma at their residence. During the altercation, Ms. Nagamani allegedly attacked Ms. Pasalamma with a firewood stick and caused severe injuries. Family members shifted Ms. Pasalamma to NTR Hospital in Anakapalli for treatment, where she later died of her injuries.

The police took Ms. Nagamani into custody on Friday (May 29, 2026) morning for questioning. The body of the deceased was sent for postmortem examination.

Chodavaram police have registered a case and are investigating.
