Seeking to facilitate an assured transition to piped natural gas (PNG) and an eased return to liquified petroleum gas (LPG) in certain exceptional circumstances, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) directed that consumers who have transitioned to PNG may obtain a transfer voucher to restore their erstwhile connection if they happen to re-locate in an area where piped gas infrastructure may not be available.
“This amendment provides significant relief and flexibility to consumers who may subsequently shift to areas where PNG infrastructure may not be feasible,” the Ministry said in a statement, adding, “The provision is particularly beneficial for transferable employees, migrant households, tenants, students, and/or families shifting to non-PNG areas.”

Additionally, it was informed that since March this year, about 7.99 lakh PNG connections have been gasified with infrastructure put in place to accord an additional 2.87 lakh connections, taking the total connections instituted to 10.86 lakh.
The latest directive also asks that transitioning consumers would have to apply for terminating their LPG connection within thirty days of obtaining the PNG connection.
