Malkajgiri traffic police book over 1,400 cases for number plate violations

Posted on May 14, 2026 By admin

The Malkajgiri traffic police on Thursday (May 14, 2026) booked more than 1,400 cases during a special enforcement drive against number plate violations and illegal writings on vehicles across the commissionerate.

According to police, enforcement teams conducted the drive at major junctions and busy stretches.

During the drive, police booked 1,468 cases related to number plate violations and 26 cases involving extra writings on vehicles. A total fine of ₹3.37 lakh was imposed on violators.

Officials said 87 motorists with repeated violations were also chargesheeted for using irregular number plates for the third time and for operating vehicles without number plates.

Police teams checked vehicles for compliance with High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) norms, including proper font, size, spacing and visibility. Vehicles with altered, obscured or non-standard number plates were booked under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Traffic police said improper number plates create difficulties in vehicle identification, particularly in surveillance and enforcement, and can affect road safety.

The police advised motorists to use only authorised HSRP number plates and avoid modifications or decorative alterations. Officials warned that repeat offenders would face prosecution and court proceedings.

Police said similar drives would continue regularly to ensure compliance with traffic rules and improve road safety across the commissionerate.
