Kerala Assembly Elections 2026: P. Rajeeve fails to survive anti-incumbency wave in Kalamassery

Posted on May 4, 2026 By admin

UDF workers lift V.E. Abdul Gafoor, the front’s candidate in Kalamassery, to celebrate his victory at the Congress House in Kalamassery on Monday.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] strongman and outgoing Industries Minister P. Rajeeve could not survive the anti-incumbency wave that struck the Left Democratic Front (LDF) badly across the State as V.E. Abdul Gafoor of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) emerged as the winner in Kalamassery.

Mr. Gafoor, who had tasted defeat in the constituency at the hands of Mr. Rajeeve five years ago, recorded an impressive victory this time by a margin of 16,312 votes. Mr. Rajeeve had won by 15,336 votes last time.
