The detection of H5N1 avian influenza virus at a poultry training centre in Mathkuru village in Hesaraghatta near Bengaluru has prompted authorities to initiate containment measures as per protocol.

The infection was confirmed on April 14 based on a report from the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal. Following this, rapid response teams from the State, District and Primary Health Centre levels visited the site on April 16.
