Couple dies as car plunges into canal in East Godavari; four others, including two children, rescued

A couple died on the spot while four others, including their two children, survived after a car, in which the six persons belonging to the same family were travellinig, plunged into an irrigation canal at Peketipakala village under Mandapeta Rural police limits in East Godavari district.

The incident occurred while they were returning to their village, Velagathodu, from Kakinada city at around 12:45 a.m. on Monday (April 6, 2025). 

In an official release, the Mandal’s Circle police stated that the couple, B. Veera Venkata Satish (40) and his wife Ms. Kiranmai (36), died on the spot after they reportedly drowned in the irrigation canal. The survivors who were rescued by the locals include elderly couple and two children. 

The Mandapeta police rushed to the spot and retrieved the dead bodies of the couple and sent them to Mandapeta government hospital for post-mortem. The police have registered a case, and the investigation is ongoing.
