Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Friday (March 6, 2026) urged political parties to ensure that the conduct of the forthcoming Assembly elections remained a model not only for the entire country, but for the entire world.

Mr. Kumar, who held a review of poll preparedness here, reiterated that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls had been conducted in the most transparent manner.

He was quoted as saying in an official release that the objective of the SIR was to ensure that no eligible elector was left out and that no ineligible person was included in the electoral rolls. He said that Forms 6, 7 and 8 could still be filed for inclusions, deletions or changes. He assured all political parties that elections were always held as per law in an impartial, free, fair and transparent manner. He encouraged them to use the cVIGIL component of the ECINET platform of the Election Commission of India to file complaints of violations of the code of conduct during elections.

He held a detailed review with heads and nodal officers of enforcement agencies, IGs, DIGs, district election officers, and SPs on various aspects of election planning, electronic voting machine management, logistics, training of election staff, seizures, law and order, voter awareness and outreach activities.

He directed all heads and nodal officers of enforcement agencies to act with complete impartiality and firmly clamp down on all inducement-related activities. He also asked all district election officers to ensure that assured minimum facilities (AMFs), including ramps, wheelchairs and drinking water, are made available at all polling stations for the comfort of voters.

Representatives of a few political parties who interacted with the CEC urged him to keep in mind the upcoming local festivals while finalising the election dates. Some parties suggested making special arrangements to assist elderly voters and persons with disabilities.

The parties urged the Commission to take stringent measures to curb the use of money power and the distribution of liquor and freebies during elections. They also raised concerns over the use of artificial intelligence and synthetically generated content in vitiating the electoral atmosphere, according to the release.
