Renuka Singh went for 12 in the first over. But, the champion bowler she is, she got into her rhythm soon and broke the back of the Sri Lankan batting to set up an easy win for India in the third T20I at the Greenfield Stadium on Friday.

She accounted for both the visiting side’s highest scorers and finished with four for 21. Her comeback to India’s T20I team – after a year and a week – could not have been better.

“I haven’t played T20 cricket for a long time, so I am happy,” said Renuka, one of the finest exponents of swing bowling in women’s cricket.

“And this has been a favourite ground for me, and I was excited when I found that we were going to play in Kerala. From the under-19 days, I have almost always taken four wickets here. I get a positive feeling that I have already done well here, and that gives me the confidence that I could do well again.”

She feels India’s bowling department is delivering “The combination of pacers and spinners is good,” she said. “We are trying to find the best combination for the World Cup.”

Renuka said the team wanted to keep the standard high after winning the ODI World Cup. “We want to win as many matches as possible,” she said. “Our aim is to take women’s cricket to an even higher level.”
