Robin Minz relishing the finisher’s role

The Ishan Kishan inspired Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy triumph was the biggest moment in the fledgling career of wicket-keeper batter Robin Minz. The 23-year-old was a component part of an explosive and destructive Jharkhand batting unit that won the SMAT title last week in Pune.

Robin Minz did his reputation, as a fearless and aggressive hitter, no harm by smashing a 14-ball 31 not out in the final against Haryana. Minz’s unbeaten fourth wicket stand of 75 runs (off 29 balls) with Anukul Roy (40 not out) was significant in the contest as it powered Jharkhand to a formidable total 262 for three in the final.

Robin Minz’s returns during the SMAT campaign was 166 runs with a strike rate of 166.74, may not be breathtaking by flash bang standards, but was decisive for the team. His top score (58 off 27 balls) came in the crunch match against Rajasthan in the league.

“As the designated finisher I’m happy to have played a small but impactful part in the team’s win,’’ Minz said.

“Batting at home stretch is challenging but you have to accept it if you want to be part of this team. There is healthy competition especially with two wicket-keepers in the squad and the only way I could fit in was as a finisher. I was mentally prepared for that role. Some days, like in the final against Haryana, you are in a zone and you middle the ball from the word go. But I am looking for more consistency while enjoying the role,” said Minz

“The SMAT triumph was unbelievable and was easily the biggest moment in my career. Ishan bhai’s jovial personality made a lot of difference. There was never a dull moment in the dressing room when he was around. On the field We were all on the same page and pushed ourselves to succeed,’’ he added.

Minz is now eyeing strong performances in Vijay Hazare Trophy and, ultimately, in the IPL.
