My confidence has increased after the CWG bronze, says Yashvir Singh

With renewed confidence, Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Yashvir Singh is trying to improve a few areas of his game to emerge as a better javelin thrower.

Yashvir, who would compete in the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meet at the Kalinga Stadium here on Saturday, said he had been fine-tuning his throws under his father-cum-coach Rai Singh.

“I am working under my father’s guidance on technical faults, speed and blocking lag. My father had a dream which he couldn’t achieve. He threw around 75m and competed at the National level. Now he is working as a Railways coach,” said Yashvir.

“All the time we discuss javelin,” said Yashvir, sharing that Rai is not too strict as a coach as the father-son duo don’t mind having ice-cream together.

Yashvir, who achieved 85.41m in his last throw in the CWG, said his confidence increased after sharing the podium with Worlds and Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra, who took the silver in Glasgow.

“The competition was good. I got my best performance and a medal. This is the first time that we won two medals. After that, my confidence is really good. I have competed with such big athletes and gained experience.”

On his target from the Silver meet, Yashvir said, “I will try to give a better performance. Last year, I participated in the Bronze Level competition and finished sixth. I will try to give my 100 per cent.

“There are international athletes from Sri Lanka and South Africa who have participated in the CWG. The competition will be good and we will get more motivation from it,” said Yashvir.
