Kerala local body polls: CPI(M) announces new line-up for Kannur district panchayat polls

Kerala local body polls: CPI(M) announces new line-up for Kannur district panchayat polls

Posted on November 12, 2025 By admin

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [(CPI)(M)] has announced its candidates for the upcoming district panchayat elections, reflecting a blend of experienced public workers and emerging youth leaders.

Party district secretary K.K. Ragesh released the list of 16 candidates at a media briefing on Wednesday, highlighting the organisation’s commitment to grassroots representation and developmental governance.

Of the 16 candidates, 15 are newcomers, signalling a major generational shift in the political landscape of the district. Binoy Kurien, sitting district panchayat vice president, will be contesting again. The list also includes two current panchayat presidents.

Mr. Ragesh said the Left Democratic Front (LDF) would seek a fresh mandate based on the achievements of both the State government and the district panchayat.

“The LDF’s record of transparent and people-oriented governance will once again win the confidence of the electorate,” he said. He added that the LDF and its candidates were focussed on continuing development rather than engaging in controversies. “We believe the people will once again stand with the LDF recognising the progress made across sectors,” Mr. Ragesh said.

Party district convener N. Chandran and State committee member T.V. Rajesh were present.
