Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company specialising in aerospace and defence engines, has announced the opening of its newly expanded Global Capability and Innovation Centre in Bengaluru.

The facility would house part of Rolls-Royce’s global digital capabilities and enterprise services team, alongside engineering teams supporting Civil Aerospace and Defence businesses, the British firm said adding the centre was positioned to become the largest capability hub for the company and would support key global corporate functions across its Civil, Defence and Power Systems businesses.

Rolls Royce also said this expansion was in addition to its plans to double sourcing from India over the next five years, accelerating the integration of Indian suppliers into its global supply chain.

Speaking on the occasion, Helen McCabe, Chief Financial Officer, Rolls-Royce plc, said: India was significant to Rolls-Royce’s global journey of innovation and progress. This newly expanded Global Capability and Innovation Centre reaffirmed the firms’ commitment to the country and would be its largest capability hub.

“We look forward to continuing to strengthen local capabilities, developing talent and deepening partnerships in the country. As we expand our footprint, our focus remains steadfast on building a future-ready ecosystem, where we can co-create solutions with our teams and partners and deliver greater value for customers in India, and worldwide.’‘ Ms. McCabe added.

While inaugurating the facility M.B. Patil, Minister for Large & Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, Government of Karnataka said, “Rolles-Royce’s journey in India, from licensed production of engines with HAL, to supporting India’s armed forces, to driving digital innovation and engineering excellence from Bengaluru, is a story of trust , collaboration and shared progress,’‘ the Minister remarked.

Ms. Lindy Cameron CB OBE, British High Commissioner to India was also present on the occasion.

According to Rolls-Royce, it is undergoing a multi-year transformation to become a high-performing, competitive, resilient, and growing business. It has made clear strategic choices, including to grow its business in India, and the strong financial results generated to date by this transformation are enabling investment in growth, including this new centre in Bengaluru.

Rolls-Royce’s legacy in India spans 90 years. Today, over 1400 Rolls-Royce engines power various platforms of the Indian Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard and Army. More than 3000 people work across its ecosystem, including 2000 highly skilled engineers contributing to global development programmes.
