After Firings, Robbery In Delhi; Bike Borne Men Loot Gold Worth Rs 3.5 Crore

New Delhi:

After three firing incidents in 24 hours, Delhi has seen a major incident of robbery with 4 kg of gold worth over Rs 3.5 crore being stolen.

Police officials said a gold merchant from central Delhi’s Karol Bagh got off an auto in north Delhi’s Gulabi Bagh when he was waylaid by men on a bike on Friday night. Approximately 4 kg of gold was looted from him, valued at over Rs 3.5 crore.

Officials said they have started an investigation on the basis of CCTV footage.

On Friday evening, three men fired over 20 rounds at a second-hand luxury car showroom in southwest Delhi’s Naraina, barely a kilometre from the local police station. A video of the shooting showed two men firing while two employees were seated and a third man threatened them.

The shooting, which took place at ‘Car Street Mini’, was part of an extortion attempt. The shooters left a slip behind, which read “Bhau Gang, Since 2020” and was seen as a reference to wanted gangster Himanshu Bhau, who fled the country in 2022 and is believed to be in Portugal. Sources said Rs 5 crore had been demanded from the owners of the showroom.

No injuries were reported, but four luxury cars – two BMWs, a Mini Cooper and a Mercedes – were damaged. Police said on Saturday that the three shooters had been identified and a case has been registered against them.

Hours before the Naraina firing, 5-6 rounds were fired at a hotel, Hotel Impress, in southwest Delhi’s Mahipalpur, damaging its glass gate. Also seen as an extortion attempt, the owner had received a threat call in the name of Canada-based gangster Goldie Brar.

The third shooting took place at a sweet shop in West Delhi’s Nangloi. A slip was found bearing the name of jailed gangster Deepak Boxer.
