Residents complain about irregular water supply

Residents of Melachokkanathapuram near Bodinayakanur in Theni district on Wednesday staged a protest at the Town Panchayat office complaining about the irregular water supply to the village.

The residents said the water supply to the village had been disrupted for over 10 days. The people were affected as a result and were forced to buy water, they said. They staged a protest by carrying empty pots and shouting slogans.

The officials held talks with the residents. They told the residents that lack of rainfall and drop in groundwater levels had resulted in the current situation. They assured the residents that water would be sourced from the other places and distributed to the village using vehicles.

Following the assurance given by the officials, the residents dispersed.
