Don’t take to streets; give me two years to resolve issues: Telangana CM to teachers

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday (September 5, 2026) appealed to teachers not to take to the streets over their grievances and sought two more years to address their problems, assuring that the government would resolve them based on the financial resources available.

Addressing a Teachers’ Day programme at the Government Junior College in Kodangal, Mr. Reddy quoted former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, and said the future of students was in the hands of teachers. “Students spend more time with teachers than with their parents. The future of the country is in classrooms,” he said.

The Chief Minister said the State’s position in education had improved from 28th to 17th after the Congress government came to power and attributed the progress to the efforts of teachers. He said the number of students in government schools had increased by 88,000 over the past two years.

The State was also making rapid progress in technical education, with 95% admissions recorded in polytechnic colleges. The government, he said, was committed to promoting education, employment and livelihood opportunities along with welfare and development.

The Chief Minister cited the recruitment of 10,006 teachers through District Selection Committee (DSC) within 55 days, promotions given to 25,950 teachers and the transparent transfer of 34,706 teachers without major controversy as measures taken by his government. It had also resolved the issues relating to Government Order (G.O.) 317 and constituted an Education Commission to address teachers’ grievances, he said.

He said the government had sanctioned ₹6,000 crore towards pending retirement benefits of employees after the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government had left such benefits pending after increasing the retirement age.

Mr. Reddy also said the State government had sent teachers abroad at its own expense to study education systems, asking whether such an initiative had been undertaken by any other State. He said 123 teachers were being presented awards in recognition of their contribution to education.

The Chief Minister said the government aimed to strengthen the public education system from nursery to Class XII and make it competitive with private institutions.

Polytechnic colleges issue

Referring to the controversy surrounding polytechnic colleges, he urged teachers not to believe what he termed false propaganda and alleged that attempts were being made to use teachers to “blackmail” the government. He assured them that the doors of the government would always remain open to address their grievances.
