Tamil Nadu Minister for Higher Education P. Viswanathan (Congress) on Sunday (August 30, 2026), said the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government headed by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will definitely complete its full term of five years.
All the five Congress party MLAs “with the blessings of the party leader Rahul Gandhi have extended their full assurance and support to the TVK government,” Mr. Viswanathan said in a brief interaction with reporters at the Tiruchi international airport.
The TVK government will surely last for five years and function in an excellent manner. Chief Minister Mr. Vijay will announce welfare schemes for the benefit of the people. There should be no doubt about that, Mr. Viswanathan said.
He said Mr. Rahul Gandhi would be projected as the Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2029 Parliament election and the party would convey it in one voice. The people of the country were frustrated and have lost their confidence in the 15-year rule of the BJP-led NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he claimed.
Replying to a question, Mr. Viswanathan said the Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly J.C.D. Prabhakar was protecting the dignity and traditions of the Assembly and will continue to do so.
Speaking about the Higher Education department, he said the TVK government had raised the consolidated monthly pay of guest lecturers working in polytechnics, engineering colleges and arts and science colleges by ₹5,000 besides announcing the implementation of Career Advancement Scheme with financial benefits for college teachers.
The Minister said the results of the examination conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board would be announced soon. The TVK government was taking care of the welfare of the teachers and students, he further said.
