Posted on August 17, 2026 By admin

At least 11 people were rescued after a fire broke out at a four-storey commercial building in Mumbai’s Kandivali area early on Monday (August 17, 2026), officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

The 11 people were safely rescued by firemen through staircase from the second floor lodging house of the Abhirai Hotel in Kandivali West, Mumbai, the BMC said.

The incident occurred at around 6 a.m., the BMC said, adding that the fire was confined to the electrical wiring, electrical installations, wooden furniture, tarpaulin, bamboo, plastic materials, etc. in an adjacent temporary fruit stall.

The fire also spread to clothes, wooden furniture, false ceiling, etc. in an area of approximately 50 sq. ft. on the 4th floor of Tirupati Banquet & Aluminium & plastic decorative sheets on the exterior side of the building and the entire building was smoke logged.

“No one was injured in the blaze,” an official said. At least four fire engines and other firefighting vehicles were deployed, and the blaze was brought under control by 6.07 a.m., he said. The cause of the fire is under investigation, he added.
