Three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel died in a suspected case of fragging at a camp in central Assam’s Nagaon district on Tuesday (August 4, 2026)

Officials said Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ballani Premabaram from Andhra Pradesh shot himself after firing at Head Constable Vishnu Prasad Baghel and Sub-Inspector Ramnawal Singh Yadav. The latter died on the spot, while the former succumbed to his injuries later.

The incident occurred at the CRPF’s 34 Battalion camp in the district’s Katimari. Premabaram also shot ASI Govind Sripul Mane of the 171 Battalion, leaving him injured. He is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

After the shooting, Premabaram reportedly entered the barracks of the 171 Battalion and ended his life.

The CRPF authorities and the Nagaon police have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the reported fragging. “The motive is not clear at present,” a district police officer said.
