The Kalyan district and sessions court on Tuesday (July 14, 2026) granted bail to Shiv Sena (Shinde group) Corporator Ramesh Sukanya Mhatre, who was arrested for assaulting doctors at the Municipal Shastrinagar hospital. Judge K.S. Katkade passed the order after hearing the defence counsel, the police prosecutor, and the investigating officer.

The court set the bail amount at ₹50,000 with a surety bond. Mr. Mhatre, who represents the Kopar Prabhag, had been in police custody for two days. His remand ended on Monday (July 13, 2026), following which his lawyer moved an application for bail. The court considered the submissions from both sides before allowing the release.

The three other accused Ramesh Pawar, Akshay Karande, and Pramod Nikam remain in judicial custody at Adharwadi jail. Their bail pleas are listed for hearing on Wednesday (July 15, 2026). Mr. Mhatre, however, has been admitted to the Thane district government hospital since Monday (July 13, 2026) night for medical reasons. His lawyer said the police would coordinate with the jail administration to complete the release formalities.

The case originates from an incident at the Shastrinagar hospital where doctors were assaulted. The police registered an offence and arrested the accused. Mr. Mhatre’s bail application was filed after his police custody period expired. The prosecution did not oppose the bail, and the defence cited medical grounds. The court granted bail with conditions.
