Strong tremors were felt in Delhi as a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck northeast Afghanistan on Saturday (June 27, 2026), according to seismic monitoring agencies.

The quake rocked eastern provinces including Khost and Nangarhar, sending out tremors that could ‌be felt from the capital Kabul across ‌the border into ‌neighbouring Pakistan.

People ⁠ran out of ⁠their doors in panic in Swat district in northern Pakistan’s ​Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ‌resident Daniyal Ahmad told Reuters. “It ‌was very huge here ​in Swat, and it lasted for ⁠quite a long time,” he said. “People came out ‌of their houses, and women and children were seen crying in panic.”

According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake struck 43 km south of Jurm in northeastern Afghanistan.

The epicentre was recorded in northeastern Afghanistan, at a depth of 208.3 kilometres (129 miles), according to the USGS.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
