The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notice to the makers of the film, Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, on a plea filed by Bollywood actor Salman Khan seeking to restrain release of the film .

Justice Neena Bansal Krishna issued notice to producer Amit Jani, Jani FireFox Films, director Bharat Shrinate, casting director Akshay Pandey and others on the actor’s application and posted the matter for hearing on June 19.

Appearing for Mr. Khan, advocate Nizam Pasha submitted that a poster released on May 29 depicted an individual bearing a striking resemblance to Mr. Khan, including his distinctive bracelet. Mr. Pasha argued that the film violated a December 11, 2025 order of the Delhi High Court protecting the actor’s personality rights.

Mr. Pasha argued that the film violated a December 11, 2025 order of the Delhi High Court protecting the actor’s personality rights.

The court was informed that while no release date for the film has been announced, its trailer was released on Friday, despite an earlier indication that it would be unveiled on June 20.

“These matters are sub judice,” Mr. Pasha told the court referring to the blackbuck pocahing case. “There are four FIRs. In three of them, I have been acquitted. In one FIR, an SLP has been filed but there is no order,” Mr. Pasha added. He contended that the filmmakers were attempting to commercially exploit Mr. Khan’s personality rights and sought an injunction against the film.

When the court enquired about the movie’s release schedule, counsel for Mr. Khan said that no release date had been announced so far.

In his application, Mr. Khan stated that the film’s promotional material made a “blatant and obvious reference” to him.

“The character depicted has an uncanny resemblance to the plaintiff and is clearly seen wearing a bracelet, which is immediately and promptly identifiable with the plaintiff and no one else,” the plea said.

The actor has argued that the use of his likeness and identifying attributes without consent amounts to an infringement of his personality rights.
