Man dies after returning from police inquiry

Posted on June 9, 2026 By admin

A 28-year-old man who was detained by the MGR Nagar police for questioning in connection with a drunken brawl, and let off on Monday night, died after he returned home.

His family members alleged he died of custodial torture. The victim has been identified as R. Venkatesan, 28, of Nesapakkam who worked as a driver. On Monday evening, after consuming liquor, he created a ruckus, causing inconvenience to  motorists on the road. Upon receipt of the information, police personnel from MGR Nagar took him to the station for inquiry.

Later, he was released and allowed to go with his parents after giving a written undertaking. When he did not wake up from sleep the next day, his parents called the 108 ambulance services. The staff who examined him declared that he was dead. Police officers are conducting further probe.
