MLA for Udupi Yashpal Suvarna on Wednesday directed City Municipal Council (CMC) officials to speed up desiltation work of storm-water drains and rivulets in the city.

Mr. Suvarna visited several low-lying areas prone to flooding and artificial flooding in the city, including Kadiyali, Gunbibail and Bannanje where the CMC was undertaking desiltation works. Appreciating the ongoing work, the MLA asked the officials to complete the balance work on priority in view of the arrival of monsoon.

He said large quantity of silt has got accumulated in storm-water drains of Mathadabettu, Garadi, Bannanje, Kalsanka, Kadiyali and other areas. They should be cleared on priority, the MLA said.

Immediate past president of the CMC Prabhakara Poojary and others were present.
