TDP launches State-wide bicycle campaign for World Environment Day; Naidu to ride in Vizag

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will launch a State-wide bicycle campaign on World Environment Day, Friday (June 5, 2026), and Chief Minister and TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu will ride a bicycle from the helipad to his place of stay in Visakhapatnam to carry the message of environmental protection.

TDP State president Palla Srinivasa Rao announced the campaign at a media conference at the party headquarters in Mangalagiri on Thursday (June 4, 2026). He said environmental protection was a shared responsibility and appealed to party leaders, cadre and the public to use bicycles wherever possible on Friday.

In a post on X, Mr. Naidu said the environment was a shared responsibility and urged people to take a pledge to protect it. “During my tour of Visakhapatnam tomorrow, I will travel by bicycle and strive to carry the message of environmental protection to the people,” he said, asking people to travel on bicycles and e-bicycles on June 5 and to plant a sapling each.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the world faced challenges such as climate change, rising pollution and the loss of green cover, and that tackling them needed action by governments, institutions and citizens. He said greater use of bicycles would help cut pollution and fuel use and improve public health.

Referring to the tensions in West Asia and their impact on global energy supplies, he said the situation had shown the need to use fuel sparingly. He recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “My Nation, My Responsibility” call, and said emissions from motor vehicles were a major source of carbon pollution; cutting dependence on fuel-powered transport would help both the environment and public health.

Citing the party’s recent Mahanadu, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said it had been held in a hybrid format, letting more than 24 lakh party workers take part through digital platforms and cutting travel-related fuel use.
